The Rainforest Alliance: Working to rebalance the planet
The Rainforest Alliance’s mission is to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour. Active in 74 nations across the globe, the Rainforest Alliance is working with forests and farmers, communities, governments and companies to conserve forests and to create sustainable livelihoods for millions of people. All stakeholders in the supply chain, large and small, including producers, suppliers, brand owners and retailers, collaborate with the Rainforest Alliance to improve sustainability and livelihoods, and preserve wildlife and forests.
The Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTM seal is used on many everyday food and non-food products that consumers can buy in stores, supermarkets and restaurants. The seal means that Rainforest Alliance Certified™ ingredients are sourced from farms that meet rigorous environmental and social standards. Since 1987, the Rainforest Alliance has supported over 1,3m farms to protect ecosystems, workers and local communities. Through these programs, an area of over 100 million acres of farm and forest land is currently under sustainable management.
Using technology to improve supply chain sustainability
The Rainforest Alliance uses ChainPoint technology to collect important supply chain data in many specific supply chains including cocoa, coffee and bananas. Prior to using ChainPoint, data was stored in a number of separate applications. Now, data is collected from the start of the supply chain, all the way to finished label goods in the ChainPoint database, enabling the Rainforest Alliance to analyse data and manage processes more efficiently. Over time, other agricultural products will be added to the platform, enabling even more visibility and traceability in global commodity supply chains to help protect the credibility of the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal.

The Rainforest Alliance Marketplace 2.0
Marketplace 2.0, built on ChainPoint technology, offers the following functions to the Rainforest Alliance:
