UEBT: sourcing with respect
The Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) is a non-profit association that promotes sourcing with respect. UEBT supports and verifies companies’ commitments to innovation and sourcing that contribute to a world in which people and biodiversity thrive. UEBT sets good practices for how companies and their suppliers source natural ingredients. UEBT not only provides the tools for sourcing with respect, it also raises awareness about challenges and opportunities in ethical sourcing through its Biodiversity Barometer and its annual Beauty of Sourcing with Respect conference.
UEBT also provides advisory, training and capacity development services related to ethical sourcing especially on in Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS), an issue included in UEBT standard. UEBT guides and verifies compliance with rules and best practices in ABS and help companies comply with regulations.

What is ABS?
In 1992, 150 nations signed the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) at the Rio Earth Summit. Then, in 2014, the United Nations’s Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) entered into force as a supplementary agreement to the CBD. The objective of the Nagoya Protocol is to help conserve our biodiversity by sharing the benefits from its utilization in a fair and equitable way.
