Bionext, our newest customer in the organic products sector, will present a tailored assessment and risk management solution, created by ChainPoint, at the BioBeurs in Zwolle (NL) on 20 and 21 January.
Bionext is the Dutch chain organisation for sustainable, organic agriculture and food. Bionext promotes the collective interests of the Dutch organic sector on both national and European levels. The organisation acts as a spokesperson for organic businesses and is the contact for all parties with an interest in organic food and farming (civil society, government, politics, media and consumers).
ChainPoint has developed a web-based assessment and risk management solution for Bionext, specifically tailored to the organic sector. The tool is used to ensure and improve the quality and safety of their members’ organic supply chains.
Growing and eating organic products has many advantages, both for consumers and farmers. Organic food is healthier and tastier and can be produced more sustainably than when using non-organic agriculture processes. Growing organic food focusses on recycling of resources, promoting ecological balance and conserving biodiversity. Synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers are not allowed in organic farming. Organic foods are not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or synthetic food additives.
The Dutch organic sector has an annual turnover of 2 billion euro’s, including export. About 1,500 certified organic farmers and over 1,700 trade and processing companies are currently active in the sector. The sector employs around 100,000 people.
